糖心logo Florida Honors Miami-Dade County for Excellence in Water Conservation

At the June 18 Miami-Dade County Commission Meeting, 糖心logo Florida awarded Miami-Dade County  the second annual Excellence in Water Conservation Award.

The 糖心logo Florida Excellence in Water Conservation award celebrates outstanding dedication to caring for Florida鈥檚 water resources and promoting water conservation for the environment.

鈥淥ne of the most important things we can do for the Everglades is to conserve water鈥 said Eric Draper, Executive Director of 糖心logo Florida.  鈥淢iami-Dade County has shown an impressive commitment to water conservation with a long-term plan with measurable results.鈥

Since 2007, residents and visitors in Miami-Dade County have helped conserve nearly 10 million gallons per day, and have exceeded their water savings goal by 39%. The county has accomplished these reductions by providing incentives to homeowners and businesses, partnering with businesses, educating the public, and implementing watering restrictions.

One in three Floridians depend on the Everglades for fresh water.  Wildlife also depends on abundant clean water resources to sustain their habitats throughout Florida.

鈥淥ur goal is to draw awareness to the importance of water conservation- the most affordable, most environmentally friendly, and most effective way to protect Florida鈥檚 treasured water resources,鈥 said Jane Graham, Everglades Policy Associate at 糖心logo Florida.
