Visitor Center Steward

The Visitor Center Steward volunteer greets visitors and helps create a welcoming and inclusive environment at Green Mountain ��logo Center’s Visitor Center. They help ensure visitors have a great experience exploring the center’s trails, connecting with nature, and learning how they can take action to protect birds and their habitats.

Duties Include:

Greeting visitors and answering general questions about the center’s trails, facilities, accessibility, public programs, and conservation initiatives.

Facilitating day-use loans of binoculars, field guides, and snowshoes to visitors.

Assisting ��logo staff with retail sales of Bird-Friendly Maple Syrup and ��logo accessories.

Interacting with children when they visit the main lobby area.

Stocking and upkeeping visitor resource displays and trail kiosks. May involve using a copy machine.

Tidying the Visitor Center’s common areas including the kitchen, restrooms, lobby, and porch areas. This may include vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, and wiping down surfaces.

Watering flower baskets and indoor plants.

Cleaning and refilling winter bird feeders as needed.

Supporting the education team by monitoring two-radio radios in case of emergency.

Bringing in the mail.

Assisting staff with light snow or ice removal from porches and walkways during the winter.

Commitment:

Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. as needed year-round

Flexibility to work full shifts on both days is ideal, but we are also considering volunteers who have partial availability.

Qualifications:

18 years or older
Ability to pass a background check
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Enjoys interacting with the public in a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive manner
Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in coordination with ��logo staff

Trail Maintenance

We always appreciate volunteer help maintaining our beautiful trails, where people connect with nature. We welcome individuals, clubs, families, school groups, and workplace groups of all experience levels!

Do you have a favorite trail at Green Mountain ��logo Center? Consider adopting it! Our Adopt-A-Trail volunteers select one of our trails and commit to three seasons—spring, summer, and fall—of conducting trail inspections and workdays. Community Science Community scientists are essential in ��logo's efforts to protect birds and their habitats in Vermont. Help us collect important scientific data about the birds, other wildlife, and plants found at Green Mountain ��logo Center.

Community Science

Community scientists are essential in ��logo's efforts to protect birds and their habitats in Vermont. Help us collect important scientific data about the birds, other wildlife, and plants found at Green Mountain ��logo Center.

Every month, we walk the trails of the Green Mountain ��logo Center and record counts of the birds we see or hear in eBird. This long-term dataset helps us better understand the population health of the center’s resident and migratory birds. The walks are open to the public and are a great opportunity to build your experience using binoculars and listening to bird song. Check out our events calendar for upcoming dates.

Gathering data on seasonal variations at the Green Mountain ��logo Center allows us to better understand the impact of climate change on the plants and habitats that birds rely on. Volunteers sign up to visit the center weekly, walk a mapped route, and record observations of the seasonal and life cycle events of twelve native plant species.

is a community science project designed to help scientists better understand the timing and availability of caterpillars and other arthropods. Nesting birds depend on arthropods for food, and climate change driven shifts can cause misalignment of bird migration and arthropod abundance. Volunteers at the Green Mountain ��logo Center take part in weekly arthropod surveys from late spring through summer.

Adopt-A-Maple

Support Green Mountain ��logo Center’s Bird-Friendly Maple Sugaring and nature education programs by adopting a maple tree in our sugarbush! For $100 your name will be printed on maple leaf cards displayed at our sugarhouse and on a sap bucket for this year’s sugaring season (March and April). You will also receive a pint of our delicious maple syrup and a coupon for one sugar on snow treat at our Sugar on Snow Parties.
